Almost got it - SmiX.MODs Feed News Center' version 0.3.4

Post by rachalmers » 21.3.2013 18:30:41

Hi,
This looks to be just what I need - and I almost have it working in PHPBB3 3.0.11

The install instructions near the end got little vague, hard to follow, but it appears to be in there.

Really, all I need is to be able to grab an Atom feed and stuff it into the PHBBB.

I followed "Installation instructions for 'SmiX.MODs Feed News Center' version 0.3.4" and the board is still working ....
Locked at the moment though - untill I figure this out.

I like this idea a lot, it's very useful.

Hello,
I believe you'll be satisfied very soonly, I'm going to release the 0.4.0 during this weekend and the templaiting of the feed will be finally included. Please wait to this weekend ;-)

(you can uninstall the 0.3.4 now ;-) )

Can xml-text converter be added?

Post by rachalmers » 28.3.2013 09:12:16

Given that most if not all Atom feeds are indeed XML, like this one,
http://mail-archives.apache.org/mod_mbo ... ormat=atom

it's header is

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<feed xmlns="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom">
and that Smix.MOD is used to acquire Atom feeds - shouldn't it be able to read this feed?

To quote.
"The URL you've posted looks ok - it' s atom. But it's using namespaces and it's not parsed, because it's not a plaintext but (x)html."

a built in parser would be nice... :-)

Otherwise brilliant Mod. Very useful indeed.

Well as I check this again, I'm not sure where exactly the parsing is failing, because it's very similar to Atom generated by the phpBB itself like this http://phpbb3.smika.net/board/feed.php

I'll have a look on that ;-)

And an answer : different data source parsing can be invented with new core version, which will allow it ;-) More about this there http://phpbb3.smika.net/mod/sfnc-development

Ok, I think I have it installed correctly

Post by rachalmers » 28.3.2013 17:49:14

In the end - I removed phpbb3, database and all, and reinstalled it clean.

At that point - once the board was running basically, I then applied the 0.4.0 install - to the letter.

I ran the contrib/install.php twice - It errored the first time - then ran clean the second time

I added the .MODS - Now that's something that needs a LOT of explanation. But I got it in the end with the help of a glass of Gin....

Now, all I need is a suitable Forum - and an idea of what I am supposed to put in the feed url to pull it in.

I'm persisting with this - because it could be useful. If I ever get it to work, then I will be happy to [Donate] ...

Well, a glass of gin always helps ;-)

And an example ... I'm testing this mod on the phpBB.com own feed - http://www.phpbb.com/community/feed.php?mode=news
It's an Atom feed and template is simle - post everything
[sfnc_item_link], [sfnc_feed_name], [sfnc_item_title], [sfnc_feed_subtitle], [sfnc_item_updated], [sfnc_item_author], [sfnc_item_id], [sfnc_item_category], [sfnc_item_content], [sfnc_item_published]

Well - nothing I do will make this thing work.
I'm using this
http://www.phpbb.com/community/feed.php?mode=news
as you mentioned - but nothing is happening.

After wetting up, I do an sfnc_update.php, but ..... nothing.

very frustrating.
